Homestead Coworking Returns To Founder

Homestead Coworking Returns To Founder

We’re excited to announce that Homestead Coworking ownership has fully returned to its founder, Tegan Martin-Drysdale.

Tegan opened Homestead Coworking in 2015 to create a safe, welcoming and supportive space for Edmonton’s freelancers, business owners and non-profits.

A coworking space where equality and diversity is not only respected but also encouraged. A place where running a business feels less lonely and new ideas sprout from connecting with a community who believes in you. Today, we double-down on this vision.

The day-to-day operations will stay the same. Members with a Private Office, Dedicated Desk or Unlimited Drop-In Membership can work from Homestead 24/7. Out-Of-Towner Passes, Community Memberships and Part-Time Memberships can enjoy the space during public hours of operation.

Are you looking for a workspace that balances community, supports and productivity?

We’d love to give you a tour and share all the benefits of being part of Homestead. Drop us a note to book a time.

8 Reasons Why Coworking is the Sh*t

IMG_1714 (1).JPG

We may be a bit biased, but coworking is the shit. It’s the bee’s knees, the cat’s pajamas, the fox’s socks… You get it. But seriously, coworking is the sweet spot between a boring coffee shop and a melancholy cubicle. If you’re on the fence about whether you should join a coworking space, maybe this article will change your mind. 😏

1. We’re expanding

We’ve recently expanded to another floor in the Alberta Block building, now occupying ¾ of the 2nd floor and the entire 4th floor. With this (super exciting!!!) expansion, we’re now able to provide larger private office options. So if you’ve grown out of your 4-6 person office, you don’t have to leave us just yet.

2. It’s a networking goldmine

Homestead is known for encouraging a culture of collaboration and community. Being around like-minded people allows you to bounce ideas off one another and learn new things you wouldn’t have otherwise. In the same breath, Homestead is home to many different companies and independent consultants. Combine those two realities and you have the ideal networking environment!

3. Perks, perks, perks

We have partnerships with local businesses across the city! From lawyers & accountants to yoga studios and universities, we consistently look for valuable partners to bring on so that our members get the opportunity to save money or learn something new.

4. We’re flexible

We pride ourselves on our flexibility. We get that one size doesn’t fit all, so we have a ton of different membership options to meet almost anyone’s request. Need a space 24/7? We got you. Only want to come around a couple times a week? Yep, we have a membership for that. Have a special request? We’re all ears.

5. Every day is bring your dog to work day!

Is your canine your sidekick? That’s cool, bring them to work with you. The Alberta Block building (Homestead’s homebase) is 100% dog-friendly. Not to mention, our staff are pretty much obsessed with dogs and will be more than excited to meet your furry friend.

6. We’re all about work-life balance

“All work and no play” is something you will never experience at Homestead. While providing special spaces for members to relax and recharge, we also plan members-only social events to get to know one another. The choice to come to these events is yours—but trust us when we say these events are f u n.

7. We provide free coffee (and sometimes beer)

Enough said.

8. We’re downtown

Forgot your lunch? No problem, there’s ~30 restaurants within walking distance. Feel the need to hit the gym at lunch? All good, there’s a gym (that we have a partnership with!) right around the corner.

Basically what we’re trying to say is… once you go coworking, you never go back. Come on by for a free day of coworking to see if Homestead is right for you!

Q: What’s your favourite thing about Homestead?

A: I really love the vibe within the community at Homestead. There’s such a great energy within the space that makes the work day a lot more enjoyable. If I need to plug in away on a work project, I know I can pop in my headphones and be left uninterrupted. If I’m looking for some inspiration, a moment to clear my head or to just get to know some other like-minded people, all I have to do is pour a cup of coffee in the communal kitchen and the conversations start flying! It’s a really great feeling.

Q: What’s one thing everyone should know about coworking?

A: You don’t have to be an extrovert to fit in at a coworking space, and I think that’s a big misconception that prevents a lot of people from trying it out. Homestead is made up of great people with all different personality types, that’s what makes it such a unique and vibrant place. Even if you’re more on the reserved side, I encourage you to explore coworking. I think it’s a great experience for all types of people.

Q: Tell us a fun, non-work-related fact about you!

A: I’m a blogger! I’ve been writing for fun since I was about five or six, and now I do it professionally as a side gig. One of my most exciting freelance jobs is I currently write for an electronic music fashion/culture publication (FYI, I love electronic music). I get to attend various music festivals and explore the fashion, artists, culture and community behind it all, then share my thoughts. I love it!
